Asbestos licensing in New York
New York requires asbestos contractors to hold an asbestos handling license from the State Department of Labor, and everyone working on an asbestos project must hold a department certificate. The state's homeowner exemption covers only an owner-occupied single-family home where the owner does all the work personally. Use the department's active asbestos contractor listing to check the license on record, and check the agency's site for current requirements.
