Licensing in Arkansas

Asbestos licensing in Arkansas

Arkansas requires asbestos abatement contractors and consultants to hold a license from the Division of Environmental Quality, renewed every year, and the people doing the work to hold state certifications such as contractor/supervisor or worker. The state's rules do not treat a residential building with four or fewer dwelling units as a covered facility, so a small home job may fall outside them. Use ADEQ's contractor and consultant search to check the license on record, and check the agency's site for current requirements.

Mold licensing in Arkansas

Arkansas does not have a state license or certification requirement for mold inspection, testing or removal. The Arkansas Department of Health publishes voluntary guidelines for mold abatement contractors, and says these are not regulations. Ask any mold company what training it has, such as voluntary IICRC certification, and get a written scope of work and proof of insurance. Check Arkansas Department of Health (ADH)'s site for current information.

Lead licensing in Arkansas

Arkansas requires lead-based paint abatement work in homes built before 1978, and in child-occupied facilities, to be done by people and firms certified or holding a license from the Arkansas Department of Health. Ordinary renovation, repair and painting that disturbs old paint falls under EPA's federal Lead-Safe program instead, which the state health department says it does not run. The department posts lists of accredited companies and personnel, and EPA has a locator for renovation firms. Check the agencies' sites for current requirements.

Radon licensing in Arkansas

Arkansas does not have a state license or certification requirement for radon testing or mitigation. The Arkansas Department of Health says it does not certify, license or register people who test for or mitigate radon. Many radon companies hold voluntary national credentials from NRPP or NRSB, so ask for proof of certification, and ask about any contractor licenses that apply to the work, such as electrical work. Check ADH's site for current information.
