Asbestos licensing in New Mexico
New Mexico does not run its own asbestos abatement certification through the Environment Department, but contractors who remove asbestos must hold New Mexico contractor licenses from the Construction Industries Division, and federal asbestos rules also apply. The Environment Department's FAQ says a home owner who has always used the home as a single-family dwelling is not subject to the federal asbestos rule. Ask for the contractor license on record and check both agencies' sites for current requirements.
