Lead licensing in Maryland
Maryland's Department of the Environment certifies and accredits lead abatement and inspection professionals and contractors. Renovation, repair and painting that disturbs old paint falls under EPA's federal Lead-Safe program. The department offers a lead certification lookup and a contractor data viewer, so you can check the certification on record. For renovation work in a home built before 1978, also ask for the firm's EPA Lead-Safe Certified Firm number. Check the agencies' sites for current requirements.
