Lead licensing in District of Columbia
The District of Columbia's Department of Energy and Environment certifies business entities that perform lead-based paint abatement and related activities, and it issues permits for lead abatement and renovation work. Renovation, repair and painting that disturbs old paint is covered by EPA's federal Lead-Safe program. The department posts a list of certified companies, so you can check the certification on record, and EPA has a locator for renovation firms. Check the agencies' sites for current requirements.
