Asbestos licensing in Washington
Washington's Department of Labor & Industries certifies asbestos abatement contractors, supervisors and workers. If materials with asbestos could be disturbed, the department says to hire a certified asbestos contractor, and it requires a survey by an AHERA-certified building inspector before remodeling, repair or demolition work. L&I publishes a certified contractors list and an online contractor lookup. Check the certificate on record, and check the agency's site for current requirements.
